I climbed off the escalators, camera bag on my back and passport in my hand. I had arrived at Dubai International Airport on the 1st of November 2012. I was finally here, and more so, I had finally realised that I would be accomplishing a life long goal and dream: To watch a Formula 1 Grand Prix race – LIVE!
I made my way easily through the Dubai International Airport … caught the Metro with my dear friend Muhammed Fuzeil and made our way to his place. It was a long ride, but we made it. Jet lagged, tired and hungry! But all that didnt matter, for in just a few hours we were to be at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi for an amazing and one of a kind experience: The Pit Lane Walk! This would allow us the opportunity to walk on the track … see the signature blue paint on the track, the red and white curbs … we would see and touch the tar the drivers would be racing on. Even better than that – we were to be in the pit lane area, walking past and viewing each team and their cars.
We took a relaxing drive out, and arrived at the circuit. Parking in RED 2 and walking to the “Paddock Club” shuttle bus, we arrived at the track in under 15 minutes. Immediately my camera was out of my bag, wrapped the strap around my wrist and snapped away. I was in my element and this was going to be the best weekend of my life. Ill let the below pictures speak for themselves …
Keep your eyes peeled, there is much more coming from the race day, free practice sessions…will throw in some videos too!

I have attended the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix two times. (2009 & 2011) The Yas Marina circuit is definitely one of the most impressive and best venues there is. I hoped that I could’ve been there to attend ‘The Pitlane Walk’, but due to work circumstances I wasn’t able to. I’ve seen the event on Youtube and it looked exciting. (Put it on my blogsite) Hopefully there will be another one next season so I can experience it myself.
Hi Romero
Thanks for visiting and your comment. The Pit Lane walk is indeed a very special and phenomenal event to attend for any true Formula 1 fan. We came so close to the cars that at some points it was possible to reach out and touch the car. I was also able to see Christian Horner having a conversation with Mark Webber, as well as see Ross Brawn hanging around.
I wish you the best this festive season and hope you are able to make it for the pit lane walk sometime. Perhaps our paths will cross next year at Yas Marina :)
Take care
